When is coffee harvested where?

Coffee Has Seasons

Like fruits and vegetables, coffee has harvest times. Depending on the country, coffee is harvested, processed, and shipped at different times.

Harvest Calendar

  • Brazil: May - September
  • Colombia: October - February (main), April - June (secondary)
  • Ethiopia: November - February
  • Kenya: October - December (main)
  • Guatemala: December - March
  • Indonesia: June - September
  • Costa Rica: November - March

Why It Matters

After harvest and processing, it takes 2-4 months for green coffee to reach the roaster. The freshest Colombian coffee becomes available around March/April.

Past Crop

Coffee stored longer than 12 months after harvest loses vibrancy. Specialty roasters therefore focus on current crops and rotate their offerings seasonally.
